27:6 'INSECURE'

It is not every day that you will walk in victory. With progress comes new opportunities to confront truth. Truth is not always sweet; it can be painful. I find that boldness teaches you not only to live in your truth but confront and deal with the painful parts too. It is the only way progress is actualized; when you are transformed and when you’re able to step up and step out in God. An inventory on my life brought to the surface that I suffer from an interesting type of insecurity; it is insecurity in my relationship with God. Perhaps you do too and didn’t know until you finish this post so please keep reading.
Friendship with Lord, just as friendship with any human being is a privilege. A friend, according to the Webster Dictionary is defined as “a person you know, like, and trust; an acquaintance, an associate, one allied with you in a struggle, a comrade, a supporter, and one fighting on your side.” God is, or I should say ought to be our friend for life. The one person whom you know, without His approval, you will not embark on just anything with anyone. When you get to the level where God has the ultimate say on what you do, when you do it, how you do it and who you do it with, that right there is evidence that your friendship with God is real. Destiny decisions always thrive when God is in the loop.
But you know what I found out? That many of us, myself included, have a lot of insecurity in our relationship with God. Yes, He is our friend, but the moment He fails to come through on our terms, or we see Him prospering other people, we quickly bail the friendship looking for what we expected Him to do, in other people or things. In friendships and relationships, having imagined what they could be, it takes time to build them. When things get mucky and ugly, or when you see as though you are less of a priority and God is out saving the rest of humanity, forgetting you, it is not for you to run elsewhere for help. It is for you to shamelessly persist in seeking God who has what you need and keep going until you receive your promise in form of victory, deliverance, and peace.
It takes trust to sustain a relationship. Same way, it takes trust to sustain a relationship with God. And the more you work on that trust, the closer you get to experiencing release, freedom & peace. When God says He answers prayer, believe Him. But you see, we are often tied down to past disappointments, so we become so afraid to trust God to come through anytime soon. We’d rather be in charge of our own lives. Sometimes though, it’s on us; we feel we have failed God in ways that His grace and mercy cannot reach us.

But the bible tells us this, Hebrews 4:16. “Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].” (AMP)
This takes me back to a basic yet fundamental act we ought to engage in every day, and that is prayer. Your prayer life is a lifestyle that daily has you communing with God about your expectations, your feelings, your hurts & disappointments. It should have you share about your days; what went well & what didn’t. It’s about hearing about what He thinks about you on the days you really don’t see what good to think of yourself.
Friendship with the Lord requires a boldness to always be in communication with the Lord. Just as we have personal & private conversations with our friends, we can also create time to have personal and private conversations with the Lord. He longs for them, and I think we ought to long for them too. You can be a friend of God if you want to. He’s not looking for perfect. He’s looking for available. One thing I love about God is that I may be rough around the edges of my heart, and He’ll gladly love on me anyway. Salvation is a journey, and as a work in progress, Jehovah God will be present to continually do some finishing touches. And always remember, you are a reflection of what/who you are connected to.
So this I believe is yours and my role in our relationship with God (a kind of curb to the insecurity):
Delve into the word of God and live it out as it says. (Remember I shared about “Allowing God to be God on His terms?”) The terms are laid out in His word. Get a hold of a bible and delve in. You’ll get to know about Him and what He stands for. Then go a step further by making time to talk with Him. For a friend you always make time. If God is your friend (and He should be) make time for Him to spend time with Him. That is the only way you get to KNOW HIM! And in knowing Him, it changes you!

FLOW OR FLOAT?

A lesson I am learning, the older I grow, is that with discovery comes revelation, and revelation does not always soothe. I believe in the slow burn of human connection, not the fleeting flicker of a sprint. I take my time, extending the same patience and grace to others that I give myself in my own process of self-discovery. Sometimes, curiosity bubbles up, a genuine thirst to understand. Other times, my emotional and mental reserves are low, and I'm simply present, observing. But…intrigue me. Nudge the edges of my world with a spark of genuine interest, and you might just pique my curiosity. A "Hmmmm…who is this person?" moment might dawn, and the spotlight of my attention will shift your way. As we forge new connections in life, we are met with a mirror—not always a flattering one—that shows us how much we have changed, and perhaps, how much we still wish to. In that reflection, we see the vastness of who we are and the contradictions we carry. Self-awareness has unlo...

The "WHAT ABOUT ME" ERA

Happy New Year—or maybe a better greeting is, You made it! It’s been an eternity since I last did this, weaving thoughts into sentences. Back then, it was pen and paper; today, it’s keys and screens. The act of writing itself feels like a resurrection. My writing process for the hiatus period has been a messy one of delay, distraction, overthinking, and an impressive dedication to avoidance. Not encouraging terms for the beginning of the year ey? True, but the awareness of it is the start in the right direction if you ask me. 2024 had been a year of relentless demands, stretching me thin in every direction. I constantly felt like I was chasing an elusive "enough," a feeling that left me perpetually unsettled and plagued by the insidious whispers of inadequacy. "I don't know," became my frequent refrain, a mantra of self-doubt that clung to me like a shadow. Yet, as I sat down to evaluate the year, a profound realisation dawned: I had pushed myself beyond my per...

FROM THE COMFORT ZONE TO WHERE LIFE REALLY HAPPENS (OUTSIDE IT)

Image courtesy of www.loc.gov A question was asked to me a couple of weeks ago, phrased in this way…   “What things do you see in your personal life where you might be resisting change?” (Think about this for some time before proceeding to read and hold on to your answer) Frustration tends to build up when things do not go as expected. Change is something each of us responds to differently. There are those who see it as an adventure. Their adrenaline shoots up at the thought of experiencing something or somewhere new. Others like myself take time to embrace it, calculating every single step as we move along. We like to know the details of where we are, what we ought to do, and better still what the future will hold. We dwell mostly in the questioning quarters than boarding the bus headed to “new”.  The word “new” scares us. We’d rather be comfortable with what we know, than be put in a place that expects us to figure things out on our own; and if it takes us ...
